Based on my own original story and world, which I will not elaborate upon here for fear of bots coming and scraping everything. Notes on details and concepts below.
In the vaguest of terms, the guy to the left is an adolescent who lives in a very rural village, but he’s got a job in the big city so when he comes home, sometimes he ends up having to solve mysteries or other issues normal villagers aren’t equipped to handle. He’s shown here checking his notes while wearing fancy festival clothes.
Now, these guys are all aliens, so you need to raise your estimation of the intelligence of the average villager…
Anyway, I’m keeping a record of this latest change here. I went very whimsical and heavily themed for this layout, but I also kept it very simple in terms of navigation and page loading. Aesthetically, I just sort of worked it out as I went along. Like the previous layout this was based on, it’s mostly 2 colors in different shades. Like the village sleuth here, the real town is a lot more colorful, but I discovered doing real colors is hard when I have only the reference in my head and no landscape experience, and it also got distracting very quickly. At the moment there’s still a lot going on, but making the colors cohesive helps.

There is something wrong with the comments when I require registration and log-in; however, it’s not particularly safe to just leave stuff open like this so I’ll be trying to figure this out for a bit.
